Bristol's housing
Much of Bristol's housing is Victorian and Edwardian terraces and semis, with Georgian streets in Clifton, Hotwells and Kingsdown. Rear and side-return extensions, loft conversions and opening up ground floors are the most common projects, and each house type has its own structural and planning considerations.
Conservation areas and Article 4 directions
Large parts of the city, including Clifton, Cotham, Redland, Kingsdown and Montpelier, are conservation areas. Some streets are also covered by Article 4 directions, which remove permitted development rights for things like front windows, doors and roof alterations. We check the position for your street before design starts, so the scheme is shaped around what the council is likely to support.
Working with Bristol City Council
We prepare and submit planning applications, Lawful Development Certificates and listed building consent applications to Bristol City Council, and deal with the planning officer through to decision. For homes on the edge of the city we also work with South Gloucestershire and North Somerset councils.
